House in Duxbury MA

Ruth Wakefield, who is known to have created the chocolate chip cookie back in the 1930’s, used to own this incredible bayside, 3-acre, 8600 SF home in Duxbury, MA.  The estate dates back to 1745 and is listed for nearly $9 million.

Known as the Joshua Thomas House, the home is linked to being a passageway to the Underground Railroad.  It is said by the owner that the estate has hidden hallways that lead to the salt marsh nearby.  It is suspected that these hallways were used to smuggle escaped slaves to Canada.

Listing agent Elad Bushari states that is it “incredibly rare” for a home with this historical significance to become available.  With an in-ground swimming pool, hot tub, dock, nature trail, water views, and an eight car garage, this property is breathtaking.
